Finally a day of design work

A brief catch-up from the days leading up to this Thursday, which is going to be dedicated to home design in the upstairs of the windmill.

I was back in Oceanside last Sunday picking the blackberries off the vine. They were super tasty and ripe for the picking.

I didn’t spend much time there since it was for a standard Dentist six month cleaning, but did enjoy driving the 1982 911SC back from Jaybird. This car has 22k original miles and will likely get some dry ice blasting and list on BaT. I’d love to keep it, but if the reserve is met, it will be sold. I only have space for 1 or two. I’m replacing the 10 year old tires this weekend and heading to a PCA event in the Cayman which is also for sale. After the tires are installed I will adjust the suspension accordingly as it sits too high.

Upon arriving back to Jaybird, it was mostly time spent watering fruit trees, and moving the limbs I pruned for fire safety into a pile to be chipped soon.

I did install a solar blaster fan in my shipping container and used an old wood holesaw to cut the first 2.5 inch hole for vents. However, the new saw arrived that is carbide tipped and should cut through like Swiss cheese. I’ll take care of more of those today or tomorrow.

I realize I haven’t worked on the home design in the computer since February. It’s been mostly sketches and I’ve come to some very detailed ideas on paper with pencil and now it’s time to generate an Electronic CAD File using Creo two. This is the engineering software I use for over two decades to design consumer products and so it works well for home design as well.

Tomorrow I will be volunteering at Ilan Lael Foundation for 4 hours. The weather is turning warm and was 80° yesterday. Their pool will be open for the volunteers so I will enjoy a cool off between doing landscape work at their facility.

On Tuesday evening, I attended a figure drawing class, and enjoyed the immersion into sketching again, which I haven’t done in probably two decades. I’m definitely very rusty and many of the participants were advanced. I look forward to practicing more and getting back to where I’m feeling more confident with my sketching skills.

Time to get this home concept into a detailed CAD model so let’s get the classical music playing in the incense flowing and dive right in. I’ll definitely update once I know what it is. I’m looking to build.

At this point, my dream house would have two bedrooms and two baths with a two car garage.

Here are a few interior images of inspiration from Gawthorne’s Hut, an architect designed retreat like space in Oz. I love how simple and clean the space is. I also used a similar wood, called Meranti, which is a marine mahogany based plywood as seen on the walls in my van build.
